Implants

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are metal replacement tooth roots that are surgical fixtures positioned into the jawbone beneath the gums. Dental implants provide an artificial root to allow dentists to mount a tooth or bridge above it. Implants are utilized to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or all of the teeth. Dental implants serve as teeth replacements while also restoring both the function and esthetics of the mouth, teeth and smile.

How do Dental Implants work?

At Aliso Niguel Dental Group, dental implants are a highly effective solution for patients who suffer from missing teeth, or long-term dental problems due to the implants natural structure and feel. Dental implants provide a stable and fit support making both eating and speaking easy for the patients unlike conventional dentures or bridge that occasionally shift in the mouth.
At Aliso Niguel, we offer implants to patients with healthy gums and bone support and encourage them to practice good oral hygiene to maintain the implants for a longer period of time. Dental implants comprise of three parts; the implant (screw serving as a tooth root), the abutment (connecting post for the tooth) and the crown (prosthetic tooth).Within our dental practice, we offer two types of dental implants; endosteal implants and subperiosteal implants.

  • Endosteal implants:requires more than one surgical procedure consisting of am implant being surgically implanted into the jawbone. After allowing the gum to heal, another surgery is undergone to connect the abutment to the implant. Following this an artificial tooth is attached to the now connecting abutment.
  • Subperiosteal implants:are metal frames that are fitted into the jawbone once the gum heals. The abutments located on the metal frame are then visible from the gums allowing the placement of a prosthetic tooth to be mounted above it.

How long do Dental Implants last?

Dental implants prove to be a highly successful and effective procedure promoting improved dental health. It is essential that dental implants are properly cared for by practicing and maintaining good oral habits of brushing and flossing the teeth regularly. Dental implants can last a lifetime making them a highly sought choice for long term tooth replacement. Dentist professionals at Aliso Niguel are more than happy to assist patients about what dental implants are most suitable for them to lead a quality life.
